Type Locality and Naming
Western Fujian. The Jishan Formation was erected by Ding Baoliang in 1989. The section for the designation is in Jishan of the Yongan City, Fujian.
Synonym: Jishan Formation (Fujian) (吉山组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Jishan Formation is represented by a set of gray white thick-bedded conglomerate with sandy conglomerate. The formation exceeds 94.0 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base marked by the occurrence of thick-bedded conglomerate is distinguished from sandy shale of the Bantou Fm, showing conformity between the two.
Upper contact
Its top is bounded by the appearance of purple red tuffaceous sandy conglomerate of the Baiyashan Fm, with the contact relationship unknown.
Regional extent
The formation occurs sporadically on the Bantou Formation of west Fujian. It is persistent in lithology and is up to 162 m in thickness at maximum.
